Sculpture
'I did not choose art. Art chose me.' - Björn Weckström
Weckström's first rewarding experiences with three-dimensional sculpting came during his childhood, as he molded figures from the clay revealed by the shallow waters at the beach. From a young age, he already had a strong calling to become a sculptor, but as a compromise between his father's belief in conservative career choices and the artistically inclined son, he chose the profession of a goldsmith. Weckström's desire for three-dimensionality also in jewelry led him to discover his own recognizable and sculptural design language. In addition to this, his youthful dream of sculpture manifested in various scales and materials, both as a result of the artist's personal vision and in commissioned works for public spaces.
