Glass

Weckström's glass production is divided into two phases: the early production at Nuutajärvi Glassworks in Finland from 1977 to 1989, and the later period following the  Weckström's large bronze sculptures.

The first phase of production includes several glass series designed for serial production, small series produced by free blowing, and numerous unique glass artworks. Among the most iconic are the robot-like Glass Men created using paperweight technique.

Glass, as a transparent and "immaterial" medium, became a natural continuation of Weckström's production, which previously involved acrylic sculptures and jewelry combining silver and acrylic. However, glass differed significantly from them in terms of themes. The cheerful Glass People series, in particular, protested against the prevailing seriousness and stagnation of the era.

The change in ownership at Nuutajärvi and Weckström's work on his large bronze sculptures in Italy paused Weckström's  glassmaking until the opportunity for a new collaboration at Iittala arose in 2010. Through the collaboration of experienced glassblowing masters and young apprentices, the Stonehenge series' first sculptures were created in 2010. The series continued with glassblowing master Kari Alakoski in his workshop in 2016 (Stonehenge II series) and 2020 (Stonehenge III series).
