Villa Weckström

The sea has been a significant element in Weckström's life from the beginning, the childhood summers spent in the Finnish archipelago, to the present day. Sailings have taken him across the Atlantic Ocean and to the waters of Bermuda; the sea has unfolded his gaze from the terrace of his studio home in Italy and the windows of his home in Espoo. Maritime memories of calm seas and storms have become a part of his art, depicted on old sail canvases. The seams and twists of the sails are incorporated into the composition, and the worn fabric's uneven relief-like surface adds to the drama of the artworks.
